Chelsea's Mad Method to tackle on stage Presentations

Chelsea's Mad method for making presentations

I AM basically going to let you all in on SUPER Secret method that I meticulously created last year and now use  to prepare for  anything I do on stage that includes the act of breaking down and eventually combining verbal & non-verbal parts needed to perfect your stage presence and presentation.

Basically I came up with this method Last year when I appeared in my first Principal Role with South Okanagan Amateur Players

I use recordings as part of my Practice System to help me prepare hyper focus and prepare for specific components to on stage communication including Verbal & Non verbal.

For my method I record 4  videos  of myself practicing whatever it is I'm working on breaking down each video by focusing on Verbal & non verbal communication even going so far as breaking it down further by creating different videos for Facial emotions & physical body movements. Before putting it All together.

The 4 STEPS

  1. For the first video I record myself sitting directly in front of my camera and simply recite verbally whatever it is I am working on.
  2. My second video is strictly my facial gestures I plan to make during my presentation which included me recording hundreds of minute long videos last year where I am  totally silent and reacting  using ONLY my face to that scene.
  3. The Third video is where I work on using my physical and over all body gestures/posture & movement by staying silent and maintaining a neutral face throughout.
  4. FOR the FINAL video recording using my method I take everything I gleaned from all the other videos & apply it all. Basically I give my verbal presentation whilst moving around and using my face to emote further!
Last year was a great practice makes perfect scenario as I had a huge part and broke my method down into what was probably hundreds upon hundreds of me breaking down every scene [going from entrances & exits] and all of the musical numbers. I basically spent an entire week meticulously applying this new method to the entire script & Musical arrangement from  Nunset Boulevard

I HOPE this makes sense and gives you some ideas on how you can better prepare for & perfect any presentations!

My Final Social Media Goals & Plans for my BC Ambassador Candidacy

My Final BCAP Social Media plans & Goals

I am calling this the final BCAP week in which I will be doing all of my final British Columbia Ambassador Program related Blogs on WordPress & Blogger, YouTube Vlogs, Tweets, and Facebook Posts. In Case you noticed I skipped final Instagram posts because #Throwbacks will always be a thing. So between today September 13th and ending next Sunday on September 20th be prepared to be amazed at my final BCAP Social media shenanigans.

My Goals are to write and upload final blogs & Vlogs and clean those sites up like making sure all of my BC Ambassador videos on YouTube are found on my official British Columbia Ambassador Candidacy Vlog playlist & the list is in chronological or at least logical sense.

I want to write and speak about my final thoughts, give recaps on what happened in Merritt as well as my candidacy over all. Make sure that all of my meaningful & thankful shout out’s have blog & Vlog counter parts. I want to make sure that throughout all of the platforms you can glean a clear sense of what my candidacy was like from start to finish whether you witness it its glory in its entirety or enjoy sneak peeks & Shortened showings.

By the end of the week everything will look tidy & neat [especially my Facebook page specifically my photo albums] that there are easy ways to find links & portals to take you to the rest of my journey spread throughout all of my various social media platforms.

You should also have a solid idea on what my candidacy was like from start to finish, whether it’s viewing a timeline of 1 photo per event in town [I attended over a 100] or seeing exactly who supported me during my Journey.
Finally I want you all to glean my initial reasons for why I entered the British Columbia Ambassador Program, what I was hoping to gain and the transition to how, when and  what I did gain including the meaningful lessons & insights.
I would also like to have a documented sense of my entire experience with the British Columbia Ambassador Program starting from the first time I attended the pageant in August of 2008. Showing you to how I grew as a person through my experiences with the program throughout the years. With a particular emphasis on how I grew as a person and benefited immensely during my time as a 2015 British Columbia Ambassador Candidate.

Lastly after reviewing my entire journey through out my 6 month candidacy spread out over roughly 22 weeks and 153 days, spanning over hundreds of events. Upon all of this you should be able to see the benefits of the British Columbia Ambassador Program and frankly try to come up with reasons as to why you shouldn’t personally take part in it if you were given the opportunity!!!!!

Backstage Shenanigans on Friday August 14th

Rehearsals before our Speech Presentations on Friday August 14th, 2015

Everyone awoke early and eager for the first day of our official pageant weekend. Which included completing a variety of judged portions of the competition and two public events. Upon arriving at the Merritt Civic Centre we headed off to another fabulous breakfast prepared by Anna Brown and her team.

Before heading off to the stage for a quick rehearsal of what would happen on Saturday night including quick pageant walks, answering hilariously made up impromptu questions before going over what the award portion would look like. This passed by rather quickly which left us a lot of time to practice speeches as well as do another mini-practice session of presenting our Community Table Displays to the Reigning British Columbia Ambassadors. This was in preparation of the Community Table judging which was happening on Friday Afternoon.

After another fabulous home cooked style Lunch, everyone headed off to the Dressing Room to start preparing for our busy judged day. Everyone was incredibly lucky that our fellow candidate Rachael Tebulte from Castlegar helped out with everyone's hair for the day. I received so many compliments on my hair that night and more than one person thought it was professionally done!
Pretty soon it was time for the start of the individual judging sessions of everyone's Community Table Presentations. We were taken into the room and had between 10-15 minutes with the judges to describe our Community tables and showcase the very best of our towns or cities. As once again I was last I anxiously awaited my turn going from doing my makeup to studying the visitors guides from my community.

As  I was last I started to notice how the time was starting to dwindle and before I knew it there was barely any time left before our scheduled dinner with the judges. When I feel like I'm late or losing time I start to get incredibly anxious. So this was one instance where being last worked against me as I had time to turn into a giant stress ball. It also didn't help when it was finally down to the girl ahead of me and myself waiting to go and they told everyone to go eat Dinner! So I will admit that I knew that I hadn't done so well with my community presentation as I had hoped. However I didn't let it phase me and instead headed into Dinner without giving it much thought. I am however still very proud of my Table Presentation and my how I showcased Osoyoos over all.

Interviews with Shaw TV Merritt

In the afternoon of August 12th we spent some time doing practice interviews where colleen and Teresa came to talk to us about our community table presentations. In order to prepare for our on camera interviews with Shaw TV Merritt! Once again we went in order and this time everyone got to watch each other as we all stood by our tables whilst we waited our turns to be interviewed.

It was my first interview for TV and first time having a mic attached to me. However I felt fairly confident as I had plenty of media interviews leading up to the pageant. Plus with my time on YouTube and attending Toasmasters I am fairly capable of speaking off the cuff.

Also we were going in our candidate orders Which for me meant I had basically memorized the interview questions once she got to me #9 lucky last. I had wanted to emphasis that Osoyoos earned the title of having Canada's Warmest Welcome not only by our warm weather but the warm community spirit. I also wanted to emphasis my artistic ability showcasing my Photography, painting En caustic Art, and crafting skills. As well as incorporate the homemade Sunscreen I had made for my fundraising efforts. I also used the bags donated by Watermark Beach resort to decorate the space below my table.

Toastmasters Summer BBQ

For my final Event on August 8th I headed to the South Okanagan Toastmasters Club #7791  Family BBQ where I finally met one of my fellow Board of directors who I had yet to meet. I also got to know more about my fellow toastmasters members  & their families! It was a fabulous way to end a very busy day! I as Vice President of Public Relations should have tried to get a full photo of the board of Directors who were all together for the first time, however I forgot. Otherwise I left my camera in my bag during the BBQ And just had fun. So these are the only two photos I took!

Media Week

The "press week" started On July 29th
On Wednesday July 29th Viveka Jensen and I headed off to our first "media" interview, of which we will be attending through out the 29th until August 4th.
This is in an effort to promote the British Columbia Ambassador Program as well as talk about our time spent and our experiences as BC Ambassador candidates. It was also a time to discuss what it was like representing Osoyoos for a second time as we had both reigned as Princesses of Osoyoos, with my own reign lasting from 2008 until 2010 and Viveka's reign taking place from 2013-2014.
Our first interview on July 29th was with Community Information Radio Osoyoos on 106.5 FM  with Randy Bedard at the radio station located within Destination Osoyoos. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the interviews had to be postponed and completed separately versus together.

The Following Day on  July 30th we visited the Osoyoos Times for an interview and a photo op. Just before we leave for Merritt we will be talking to Randy Farmer with EZ Rock Osoyoos on August 4th.

Previously we completed an interview with Osoyoos Daily News and Ripples Publishing online magazine.

Osoyoos Splash Park Family Fun Night

On July 15th  I stopped by the Osoyoos Splash Park for a family Fun Day including a Free BBQ.
Even though I didn't go into the splash park itself I did find it wonderful to see so many children enjoying the Park!

After many years of dedicated work on the Osoyoos Splash Park Society the park was Completed and open for it's first Summer last year in 2014.

The Osoyoos Splash park has an ideal location on a Large grassy field in the old Jack Shaw Garden areas [old Horseshoe pit] which is near the Osoyoos Elementary School, Osoyoos Childcare Center and there is a tunnel that leads across the street to one of the beaches in Osoyoos. The tunnel allows families to avoid traffic to get to the other side of the street.

All in all it was my first time visiting the Osoyoos Splash Park, I had so much fun seeing the cheerful children who were making use of a way to cool down and enjoy the outdoor fun Osoyoos has to offer.

Osoyoos Desert Centre Night Tours

On July 9th I attended a guided Night tour at the Osoyoos Desert Centre

Through out Summer of 2015 the Osoyoos Desert Centre is offering several guided Night Tours, so I decided to attend one of the tours. Boy was it a far different walk than when I attended the 2015 Season Open House in April!

First of all I thoroughly enjoyed the much cooler temperatures during the evening tours, as compared to how hot it can get during the Day.  I was also quite
intrigued by how green everything seemed to be, Considering Osoyoos had a Heat wave for the first few weeks of July. I am guessing everything stays a little shaded at the Osoyoos Desert Centre thanks to Kobau Mountain!

During the tour it was on a day where the Smoke from Nearby Forest Fires was changing the sky various shades of Pinks, oranges, and yellows. As sad as that fact was it sure did add to the ambiance of our night tour.

Another unique part of our tour was the fact that we started at the opposite end of the board walk from when we had our tour in April.

One of the first and most poignant differences between this tour and the one in April was the fact that the first stop on the tour was at the Pond built for the endangered Great Basin Spadefoot which had completely dried up between April and July!
Here is the Pond with water  and in the next shot that is the pond behind our tour guide in July, bone Dry!

During our tour we saw some wildlife including getting close to some Birds as you can see one is sitting on the post. We also met some deer however they were too quick to get pictures!

During our Tour our tour guide also gave us a brief speech about Snakes albeit we didn't see any.
She even showed us this little grove of trees where the tend to find snake skins

I had a fabulous time on this unique Osoyoos Desert Centre tour. I would highly recommend anyone attend any of the remaining Night Tours offered this Summer! I learned a lot, saw some different perspectives and enjoyed the cooler temperatures!
