Final Fundraiser & Community Event

On August 10th I attended my final Osoyoos in town event which also served as my final fundraiser for the British Columbia Ambassador Program.
I  hosted a small fundraiser which I called Chelsea's Taste of Osoyoos for a few hours at a New Leaf Tea & Gifts.

During my event I sold entries into my Prize Draw with the Grand Prize being a Two Night Stay in a lake view suite at A Watermark Beach Resort  including a $50 Wine Bar gift certificate and wine tasting a local winery.

During my event I also hosted a small loonie auction as well as selling my Home Sunscreen with SPF 15 & home Made Lemon Lip Balm.

As it was a good-bye Party I also had a Good Lark Card for people to sign and I also handed my BC Ambassador Candidacy Business cards out to people.

Near the end of the afternoon I would up buying a round of Tea from A New Leaf Tea & Gifts on me and one couple came up to me to tell me thank you for my random act of kindness and promised to vote for me for Peoples Choice.

I am happy to say that I sold over 160 Raffle tickets for my Prize Draw alone and by the end of the afternoon I had raised an over all total of $1,000 for the British Columbia Ambassador Program since my candidacy had started back in March. A feat which would not have been at all possible without the the warm embrace, kindness and support of my Home town and community of Osoyoos.

Lastly I would like to thank the following organizations, groups and businesses for their kind and generous support during my candidacy and further more my fundraising efforts for the British Columbia Ambassador Program.  Firstly the Osoyoos Coyotes Junior B KIJHL Hockey Club  Osoyoos Festival Society [Also on Facebook] Crave Ice  Unity Osoyoos Avalon Inn Osoyoos  Osoyoos Art Gallery  [Also on Facebook] Joolz Joolz Genuine Joolz  Osoyoos Duty Free Shop  British Columbia Visitors Centre @Osoyoos Watermark Beach resort  [Also on Facebook]  Solterra Desert Spa  A New Leaf Tea & Cafe

Volunteering at Romancing the Desert

During the early evening on August 8th I volunteered at Romancing the Desert which is an annual fundraiser put on by the Osoyoos Desert Society to raise money for the Osoyoos Desert Centre & Environment based projects! This was my second time volunteering at the event having previously done so in 2009 as an Osoyoos Princess.

This time around I spent time greeting people & directing them as to where they needed to line up for Dinner! Unfortunately my time at the event was quite limited as I had yet another place to get to before the evening ended.

Whilst volunteering I did have the honor of meeting Linda Larson our local MLA as well as say a few words to Madam Mayor Sue McKortoff and speech to the President of the Osoyoos Desert Society and the manager of the Osoyoos Desert Centre as well as greet every guest in attendance. Congratulations on a Successful event!

I made my exit as the last group was being directed to the dinner line after which I headed straight to Oliver for the annual South Okanagan Toastmasters Club #7791 Summer BBQ.

Desert Park Race Days

On August 8th I also attended the annual Desert Park Race Days where I was able to see the final two races of the day! This year I wore a fascinator given to me by my Aunt for my Birthday! It was a cute Top hat :)
Here I am at the Winners Circle where the winning horses take victory laps.
As per usual the Desert Park exhibition society put on a fabulous race. Unfortunately I didn't know this at the time but the Race Day I attended would be the only one for this season. The Horse Races scheduled for August 22nd ended up being canceled due to the Forest Fires surrounding Southern British Columbia & Washington State, as well as the heavy smoke conditions the fires created.

So I would like to congratulate the Desert Park Exhibition society on hosting another fabulous and well attended race day. Hopefully next summer allows them to once again host more than one Race Day.

Final Farmers Market Fundraiser

Early on August 8th I got up at 7 a.m to attend my final Farmers Market as a Vendor hosting a table selling Home Made Sunscreen & Lip Balm as a Fundraiser for the British Columbia Ambassador Program!Lucky for me my new labels & Business cards arrived in time for me to use at my final farmers market.
This was to be my first Saturday morning market and I was pretty nervous for this one, not fully knowing what to expect for crowds. Lucky for me I was able to set up in the shade as I didn't have a stand to protect me from the sun.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who came out to see me during any of the farmers markets   I attended & to everyone who supported my candidacy in some way!

I would like to graciously thank everyone who has supported me during the Farmers Market. Over all I was able to raise over $1,000 for the British Columbia Ambassador Program. Which wouldn't have been possible without my participation in the Farmers Markets.

Radio Interview at EzRock

On August the 4th I went to Ez Rock Osoyoos 1240 F.M  for my final Media Interview. It was a lot of fun and this time around I wore Headphones so that I had to hear myself speak. Which was different. My interview with Ez Rock Osoyoos went up on the 10th of August, with my previous interview with the Osoyoos times being published on the 5th and my interview with Community Infromation Radio Osoyoos having went up practically as soon as we finished the interview. I will most likely have more media interviews in Merritt and feel well prepared for them now!

Media Week

The "press week" started On July 29th
On Wednesday July 29th Viveka Jensen and I headed off to our first "media" interview, of which we will be attending through out the 29th until August 4th.
This is in an effort to promote the British Columbia Ambassador Program as well as talk about our time spent and our experiences as BC Ambassador candidates. It was also a time to discuss what it was like representing Osoyoos for a second time as we had both reigned as Princesses of Osoyoos, with my own reign lasting from 2008 until 2010 and Viveka's reign taking place from 2013-2014.
Our first interview on July 29th was with Community Information Radio Osoyoos on 106.5 FM  with Randy Bedard at the radio station located within Destination Osoyoos. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the interviews had to be postponed and completed separately versus together.

The Following Day on  July 30th we visited the Osoyoos Times for an interview and a photo op. Just before we leave for Merritt we will be talking to Randy Farmer with EZ Rock Osoyoos on August 4th.

Previously we completed an interview with Osoyoos Daily News and Ripples Publishing online magazine.

Watermark Presents Summer Movies

During Every Tuesday in July Watermark Beach Resort played different films on a big screen

On Tuesday July 28th, I went over to Watermark Beach Resort for the evening showing of Jurassic Park. Where $5.00 paid my entrance into the movie and bought a popcorn and a drink.

The theatre was located in the conference room where they had chairs set up as well as pillows & fluffy beach towels.

Sadly the movie was canceled due to a lack of people, as there was only myself and one other young man. I did get to chat with the hotel worker who was running the event and she told me that they have had a good turn out for movies aimed towards younger audiences.

Summer Street Dance in July

On July 24th I attended the Annual July Summer Street Dance
A Summer tradition in Osoyoos is the annual Summer Street dances with one held in each July and August. For over 20 years they were hosted by the owners of  Osoyoos Home Hardware  put on by Francis and her husband larry alongside Staff of the store. They were held in the block between Osoyoos Home Hardware & O'Delights during those years.

I enjoyed a fresh hot dog well listening to a variety of Music, whilst watching people of all ages dance the night away. I also ran into the two little girls I currently nanny, one of whom won a prize on stage!

As of last year the Osoyoos Senior Centre  took over hosting duties for the Street Dances and they are now held at their current location of the parking lot between the Osoyoos & District Archives and Museum and the Osoyoos Senior Centre, at the bottom of Gyro Park/Beach.

Fundraising at the Osoyoos Market on Main Summer markets

In the beginning of July I submitted an application to sell homemade Sunscreen and Lip Balm during the Osoyoos Market on Main Summer Saturday morning and Wednesday evening markets.
By Mid July my Application was approved and on July 21st  I quickly made Home Made Sunscreen with SPF 15 to sell at my first Osoyoos Market on Main evening market as a vendor on Wednesday July 22nd.

I sold my Sunscreen alongside the home made lip balm I made to sell at the Cherry Fiesta.
As my original plan had been to sell both the Lip balm and the Sunscreen on July 1st during the Osoyoos Canada Day and Cherry Fiesta Celebrations hosted by the Osoyoos Festival Society. However ingredients for the sunscreen were on back order and didn't arrive in time!

It was quite a different experience being on the other side of the market by attending as a Vendor versus a BC Farmers Market shopper. I enjoyed my evening getting to know the other vendors whilst selling my Lip balm & Sunscreen and speaking with locals and tourists. During the evening I also handed out business cards and talked about my experience with the British Columbia Ambassador Program and my time spent as a candidate.

I will continue to sell my Sunscreen and Lip Balm when I host my BC Ambassador Candidacy Fundraising and information booth. When I attend the upcoming Evening Market on Wednesday  July 29th, the Saturday Morning Market on August 1st, the evening market on August 5th and my last Farmers market fundraiser on August 8th.

The Osoyoos Market on Main Society hosts the Summer Markets at Town Square Between Town Hall & Destination Osoyoos on Mainstreet/Highway #3. With the Saturday Morning markets  that started in May and will continue every Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m to 1 p.,m until September. With the Wednesday evening markets held between 5:30 to 8:30 through out July and August.
I hope you all come out and Buy local and come say Hi!

Osoyoos Splash Park Family Fun Night

On July 15th  I stopped by the Osoyoos Splash Park for a family Fun Day including a Free BBQ.
Even though I didn't go into the splash park itself I did find it wonderful to see so many children enjoying the Park!

After many years of dedicated work on the Osoyoos Splash Park Society the park was Completed and open for it's first Summer last year in 2014.

The Osoyoos Splash park has an ideal location on a Large grassy field in the old Jack Shaw Garden areas [old Horseshoe pit] which is near the Osoyoos Elementary School, Osoyoos Childcare Center and there is a tunnel that leads across the street to one of the beaches in Osoyoos. The tunnel allows families to avoid traffic to get to the other side of the street.

All in all it was my first time visiting the Osoyoos Splash Park, I had so much fun seeing the cheerful children who were making use of a way to cool down and enjoy the outdoor fun Osoyoos has to offer.
