Toastmasters Summer BBQ

For my final Event on August 8th I headed to the South Okanagan Toastmasters Club #7791  Family BBQ where I finally met one of my fellow Board of directors who I had yet to meet. I also got to know more about my fellow toastmasters members  & their families! It was a fabulous way to end a very busy day! I as Vice President of Public Relations should have tried to get a full photo of the board of Directors who were all together for the first time, however I forgot. Otherwise I left my camera in my bag during the BBQ And just had fun. So these are the only two photos I took!

Board of Directors Meeting for South Okanagan Toastmasters Club #7791

On August 25th I attended my first Board meeting for Toastmasters
Back in June I was elected as Vice President Public Relations for South Okanagan Toastmasters Club #7791 and will serve on the board of directors for the next year. Along side my fellow board members.

On Tuesday at our Summer July meeting which was held here in Osoyoos at a fellow board members house. During the evening I presented the newest version of my British Columbia Program Community speech about Osoyoos as part of my judged public events. I also received my official Toastmasters International Name tag which was just in time.

As today on July 25th we held our first Board meeting where  we  went over the expected budget for this year [2015/2016.]  The Board also talked about any club news and went over initial goals both as a club and for each individual board member and their respective duties.

Over all it was an incredibly productive meeting with lot's of ideas mentioned and a decent amount of work accomplished. As a board I am looking forward to working together with my team to ensure the continued success of our Club as well as  helping empower other people by giving them the tools needed to glean  essential Skills in communication as well as leadership over all!

Anarchist Mountain Garage Sale

On July 5th I traveled up Anarchist Mountain
to attend the 2nd Annual  Anarchist Mountain Garage Sale

I really enjoyed the time I spent visiting the Anarchist Mountain Garage Sale, even though I was there for an hour it felt like no time at all had passed. I was thoroughly enjoying the tranquil Anarchist Mountain Rest stop where the Garage Sale was held,  a place I had never visited before.

It was refreshing to spend time talking to some vendors whilst enjoying the crisp Mountain Fresh Air, and savoring the cooler temperatures the trees on the mountain top provided. During my time at the sale I talked to several different vendors including Local Watkins Consultants, Oliver Tupperware, and consultants from Arbonne and Scentsy.

During the afternoon I met Janel who is an Arbonne Canada Consultant located here in Osoyoos. She and I had a lovely chat about self help books and she presented me with a small gift. When I got home I learned she had given  me a bag full of mini samples of Arbonne products including FC5 Ultra-Hydrating Hand Creme and a complete RE9 Sample kit including Hydrating Body lotion, Facial Cleanser, Facial Toner, Intensive renewal Serum, Corrective Eye Creme,  and Restorative Day Creme with SPF 20,  All of which I plan to try out during the BC Ambassador Program Judged events taking place in Merritt from August 10th to August 15th!

This was the second annual Anarchist Mountain Garage Sale and having never been to the first one I was plesantly surprised at how popular the event was for both Vendors and people visiting the sale! I want to wish the Anarchist Mountain Garage Sale organizers for successfully putting on their second event and I hope you host another one next year!

52 Osoyoos Museum Anniversary

On June 13th I attended the Osoyoos & District Museum and archives 52nd Anniversary Celebrations. The actual date of the historical opening of the Osoyoos Museum was on June 15th, 1963.
The Osoyoos Museum in 1963 During that time the Osoyoos Museum had been located in a different location in a building on Town square. In 1975 the museum moved to it's present day location in Gyro park which was at one time the old curling rink.

Presently the Osoyoos Museum has the vision of moving to a new building down town by 2020.
A building that is as of now relatively close to it's original location on Town Square.

On the 13th the Museum was free for everyone and included guided tours and free cake. I myself attended one of the free guided tours and had the chance to learn more about the town and the museum itself. I also enjoyed a delicious piece of cake!
Below are some of the photos I took during my guided Osoyoos Museum Tour.

This is one of my favorite photos and shows some of the first Osoyoos Royalty in one of the coolest floats - a Giant Cherry Pie which goes hand in hand with cherry fiesta. We even have a cherry pie eating contest.

In the photo to the right I am standing in-front of one of the oldest buildings in Osoyoos.

In the photo to the left I am standing by an average Fruit Picking ladder from many years ago. These days the fruit trees are much smaller in height.

Did you know I used to be a Cub scout?

Miss Osoyoos Speech Night & Auction Fundraiser

On April 24th I attended the annual Miss Osoyoos Speech night and Auction Fundraiser. This event was held at Troy's Grill and featured the 2015 Miss Osoyoos Royalty Program Candidates present a speech on the topic of their choice.
The three young ladies vying for the title of Miss Osoyoos each gave a speech about their passions.

Tianna - Miss Buy-Low Foods Osoyoos gave a speech about reading and books.
Bailey - Miss Osoyoos Elks Lodge #436 gave a speech about her participation in Women's Soccer and she even spoke to us about her excitement in regards to Canada hosting the 2015 FIFA Women's Cup.

Emma - Miss Desert Aire Reality spoke to us about what it was like to grow up in a Multicultural household.

We also saw each candidate present a 1 minute presentation showcasing the best parts of Osoyoos. Two of the ladies wrote original poems & one created a Rap to the theme from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.

After the judged portion of the evening had ended it was time for the Auction Fundraiser. First up were 3 cakes that were made and decorated by each Miss Osoyoos 2015 Candidate.
The evening also included an Auction Fundraiser Portion. The candidates were each expected to bake & decorate a Cake. Tianna chose to make a Buy-Low themed cake including a Shopping cart.  Bailey made a fabulous bear with a crown sitting on some flowers and Emma created a Desert Oasis complete with palm trees & a mermaid. The most expensive cake brought in $280 dollars on the cake auction block and all together the cakes brought in over $700 to the Osoyoos Royalty Program.

Next up was the flower center piece auction, where the reigning royalty joined the candidates to display the flowers as they went up for Auction and to hand deliver them to the winners after they were purchased.
The two most expensive floral arrangements [it was a tie]  sold for $35.00 each. I counted roughly 10 arrangements and I estimated a total Flower sale of over $250 going towards the 2015 Osoyoos Royalty travel fund.

The last portion of the evening was another Auction sale as the reigning 2014 Osoyoos Royalty Team baked cupcakes that were put up for Auction.

I counted roughly 14 plates of cupcakes were put up for Auction with the most expensive plate selling for $15 and all together the cupcakes accumulated roughly another $125 dollars going into the travel fund. So all in all it was an incredibly successful event that made a lot of Money to go towards the travel expenses of the 2015 Team.

At the end of the evening I was presented with a beautiful floral arrangement that was given to me by my good family Friend Lloyd who also happens to be a Elks Lodge member & a HUGE Osoyoos Coyotes Hockey fan :) I was extremely happy because he bought me a truly gorgeous display.

I want to commend the Osoyoos Royalty Program for putting on such a successful public event. I also want to congratulate the 2015 Miss Osoyoos Candidates for making it this far in the program. As a Miss Osoyoos Candidate myself I always felt the first two First judged public events were the toughest. Having said that each of the 2015 Miss Osoyoos Candidates showed a tremendous amount of self growth between their First and second judged events. I was extremely proud for all three of the Young Ladies for their superb speech presentations and highly creative Osoyoos Promotion speeches [the quick 1 minute Poems & Rap.] Well done ladies, one more event to go before you embark on your Journey as Sparkleheads.

For those who wish to attend the 2015 Miss Osoyoos Pageant the coronation ceremony will take place on Tuesday June 30th, 2015 at the Sonora Centre with the doors opening at 6:00 p.m & the Pageant beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are for sale at the door or from any of the current reigning Royalty or Candidates for  $15.00 for adults aged aged 13 and over, with tickets for Children available for $8.00. Don't miss your chance to celebrate the success of the 2014 Osoyoos Royalty Team as they reflect upon the end of their Journey as Sparkleheads and join in as we welcome and support the incoming 2015 Miss Osoyoos Royalty.

In Case you didn't need more motivation to go, not only will the Osoyoos Royalty be on stage, but all of the Visiting Royalty as well as myself & Viveka Jensen as we will be introduced on stage as British Columbia Ambassador Candidates. So come on out for will be a fabulous final judged event for the 2015 Miss Osoyoos Candidates & the last event for the 2014 Osoyoos Royalty Team as they pass on their titles and tiaras onto their successors.

In Case you are unable to attend the festivities on June 30th come and say hello to all of us on July 1st which is Canada Day as well as the annual Osoyoos Cherry Fiesta. There will be no shortage of Crowns, sparkles, and enthusiastic Youth of British Columbia out and about taking part in the day's festivities. You will not only see the Retired & newly crowned Osoyoos Royalty as well as myself & Vivekia as British Columbia Ambassador Candidates  but plenty of  visiting young men and women from all over the Province. Let's show everyone as a community on a whole a good Old Fashioned Canada's Warmest welcome from Visitors and residents of Osoyoos alike all gathering together to celebrate our town & our Country!

Osoyoos Museum May BBQ Fundraiser

During the Morning of April 9th I volunteered at the Osoyoos Museum BBQ Fundraiser

Early in the morning [at least to me] I slathered on my Sunscreen including my Mary Kay  Timewise Day Solution and Sunscreen, put on my Yellow Dress from Wander Cafe Osoyoos  and walked down to the local AG Foods Osoyoos where the Osoyoos & District Museum and Archives was hosting the first of two Hot Dog BBQ Fundraisers!

I got to the BBQ around quarter to 11 a.m and stayed until 1 p.m when I had another event to head over to. Through out the BBQ I was in charge of the money and boy was I busy! Another way I was helping was by being the person who had a Food Safe certificate. Food safe is such an easy and in my oppinion important certificate to get. if you have yet to complete your food Safe I highly recommend investing in taking a Food Safe Course.
We were selling a Hotdog & A pop for a TOONIE thats $2.00!!! So naturally we had many a person who stopped for a Juicy Hot Dog after they had done their morning shopping in the store!
I too had a Hot Dog of my own!

Recently I joined the Osoyoos Museum Society and that is how I was helping out today. However I did get a formal invite to attend and help out on Behalf of my British Columbia Ambassador program Sponsor Doctor Martha Collins from Sunshine Valley Family Chiropractic who is also a member of the Osoyoos Museum Society! Here is a picture of myself & my Sponsor - Doctor Martha!

During our Fundraiser everyone was hard at work whilst basking in the Hot Osoyoos Sunshine, it got up to 25 Celsius today!!!
I would say we had a fabulously successful morning as we not only sold nearly [if not more than] 50 Hot Dogs, we also signed up two new members for the Osoyoos Museum Society, and sold an Apron which is a continual Museum Fundraiser. Plenty of people also took a free Friend of the Osoyoos Museum Support Button!

I would like to thank the Osoyoos & District Museum and Archives for inviting me to help out today. I look forward to helping out again Next weekend!

So don't forget that the members of the  Osoyoos Museum Society  will once again be hosting a second Hot Dog BBQ Fundraiser outside of AG Foods Osoyoos next weekend on Saturday May 16th from 11 a.m until 2 p.m, for the Same steal of a deal of a Hot Dog & A Pop for a Toonie/$2.00
